Mr. Potato Head News!

The class earned all the pieces to our first Mr. Potato Head!  Check him out!  We will create a potato head hall of fame this year.  Each time a Mr. (Mrs.) Potato Head is made, he/she will be added to our Star Behavior Hall of Fame! 

Be sure to ask your child to tell you how we earn a pieces for Mr. Potato Head! Now it's time for the class to celebrate for working so hard to show star behavior!  The class voted on a reward and PJ Day won. We will have our PJ day  Wednesday, October 7th.  Kids can wear PJs, bring in slippers and/or a favorite stuffed animal for the day!  I am so proud of ALL the kids for working so hard to show STAR behavior!!  I am amazed at the improvement I've already seen since the begininng of the year!!

What is the Daily 5?

Daily 5 is how we structure our literacy block in second grade.  Children complete meaningful literacy tasks that promote independence while fostering a love for reading and writing.  The Daily 5 allows your child to work at his/her  "just right" level.   The components for Daily 5 are:

• Read to self
• Work on writing
• Word Work
• Listen to reading
• Read to Someone

Right now, we are focusing on increasing our stamina to work independently during Read to Self and Work on Writing.  Within the next couple weeks, the other components of Daily 5 will be introduced. While the students are completing their literacy tasks, I will be meeting with small groups and conferencing with individual students.  Check out the kids building their stamina during their read to self time!  Ask your child to tell you the three ways to read a book!
