Classroom News

During reading, we've been focusing on writing "remarkable retells."  Ask your children to tell you what makes a retell remarkable.  As you read at home with your children, have them retell their story.  Their retell should include the key details from the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  Also, be sure they include the characters' names and the retell should be in their own words.  Stay tuned for our sock puppet retells!

We just finished up our descriptive haunted house writing.  We used our sense of sight and hearing to write our haunted house descriptions.  Check them out at conference time!

Star work continues to be a focus in our classroom.  When I see "evidence" of star work, it is added to  the child's star work bag.  Encourage your child to do star work during homework time!

Star work=Name and date on paper, personal best work, accurate, neat, juicy verbs and adjectives, used writer's eyes to check work.  If there is an illustration it is sketched first!
