Wolf Elaborative Writing

During writing we are working on elaborating.  Elaborating is when we stop the action of the story, zoom in on one moment and use our 5 senses to describe what is happening making the reader feel like they are "right there."   Listen to the wolf writing from your classmates.  How did each person elaborate?  What vivid verbs and adjectives did your friends use in their writing?  Check out our amazing writing by clicking the link below.

Here's Kevin's wolf writing too!  It went missing when I downloaded the class's writing.  Sorry Kevin!

Math Fact Fluency

Extra math is now part of our nightly math homework.  Please make sure your child is practicing his/her facts Monday-Thursday for at least five minutes a night.  There are also several wonderful math websites I've listed on my blog where the kids can play games to reinforce their addition and subtraction facts.  The Term 2 expectation is for children to know at least 25 addition and subtraction facts to 20 in a minute and a half.  Mastery of math facts is very important especially as children are introduced to 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction problems.  When you view your child's data binder, check to see how many facts he/she is getting correct. Special thanks to Mrs. Fleming, she's been working with the kids on fact fluency every Tuesday!

Hanging with Salty and Stripes!

Many of the kids spend a lot of time hanging out with our hermit crabs during indoor recess.  Check out the their cool creations!

Salty and Stripes visit the hospital for a broken claw!

They even have a playground!

And a cool obstacle course!

They sure are getting their exercise!

Scientist of the Week

Connor did an amazing job on his experiment.  If you have a glass, an index card, and a coin then you can try his experiment out at home!

Flat Stanley!

Thanks to all the families that came in for our Flat Stanley kick off during education week!  Check out these photos!   We are looking forward to seeing what countries our Flats will travel to!
